Advanced armour solutions for military vehicles and their crews
Not only do we provide a range of modular, ‘ready to go’ armour solutions, we also have a strong focus on research and development.
Through our research, we are developing a pipeline of future products using the latest material technologies. RBSL is a trusted partner to the UK MOD on several research programmes, helping to develop next-generation armour solutions for the British Army and generate UK export opportunities.
RBSL has the know-how to develop armour solutions and the ability to integrate them onto vehicles, including testing and in-service support – a full package of support for our customers.
CURRENT PRODUCTS
Metallic plate armour
RBSL designs, specifies, fits and tests metallic plate armour, which is ideal for protecting a vehicle against threats such as Small Arms Ammunition.
Bar armour
Bar armour is a highly-adaptable and lightweight protection solution for shoulder-launched High Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) weapons for all classes of military vehicles.
Telford Enhanced Passive Armour (TEPA)
TEPA uses a specific combination of materials and geometries, working with vehicle base armour, to absorb the effects of ballistic impacts or High Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) jets.
Telford Enhanced Reactive Armour (TERA)
TERA is an evolution of conventional Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA), primarily designed to counter ERA-defeating shoulder-launched and other tandem HEAT threats.
FUTURE PRODUCTS
Telford Enhanced Space Armour (TESA)
TESA is a novel approach to perforated armour, using unique geometry and features which disrupt the flight path of ballistic threats.
Telford Enhanced Ceramic Armour (TECA)
TECA is a new composite ceramic armour which exceeds current ceramic armour performance, whilst weighing less than other STANAG level 6 solutions.
RESEARCH
Integration of complex protection systems
RBSL integrates technologies onto armoured vehicles, including electric armour, Active Protection Systems, NBC protection and high voltage vehicle architectures.
Manufacturing process research
RBSL works closely with a range of industry leaders and top academic institutions to ensure we remain at the forefront on manufacturing technology.
Materials research and ballistic evaluation
RBSL’s materials research and ballistics evaluation programme is a core aspect of our survivability capability, enabling us to assess state-of-the-art materials for inclusion in future protection solutions.
Future combat vehicle survivability
RBSL investigates a wide range of survivability technologies and concepts for future combat vehicles, including UGVs, manned or optionally manned platforms.
DESIGN SERVICES
Platform survivability design and upgrades
As Original Equipment Manufacturer, RBSL analyses a platform's survivability needs and identifies the optimum solution that meets a customer’s overall requirements.
In-service support
RBSL’s support services span from product design and development through to testing, maintenance and disposal.
TECHNOLOGY
The latest technology underpins all of RBSL’s armour products and services, and developments in this area are helping to shape the future battlefield, notably customers’ abilities to respond to evolving threats.
RBSL also sponsors university PhD students and their armour research projects, ensuring cutting-edge thinking is incorporated into our products.
PROSPERITY
RBSL’s survivability work sustains highly skilled jobs in engineering and technology, contributing to the UK's national skill base in defence and engineering.
RBSL’s sponsorship of university PhD students further protects the UK’s STEM skills and future talent.
RBSL also has the knowledge and resources to export survivability solutions to global armed forces. RBSL can support international partnerships with the solution and with advice on in-country industrialisation, which can contribute to economic growth.
