RBSL and Techmodal host Hackathon Event at MoD’s BattleLab Facility

Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land has partnered with Techmodal to host its first Hackathon event.

The event, which took place at the MoD’s BattleLab facility in Dorset, saw RBSL join forces with Techmodal, a defence data and analytic specialist group (and part of the wider BAE Systems) to use data from across the enterprise, to bring new insights into the operation and support of the Terrier platform.

Centred on the Terrier vehicle, the event demonstrated the value of a modern data-science led approach to maximising the availability and cost-effectiveness of land equipment. It also demonstrated the value in a collaborative approach bringing together industry, DE&S and the Army.

Richard Dobie, Data and Information Lead at RBSL said:

“The hackathon demonstrated the enormous value of effective land equipment data exploitation in pursuit of the Army’s Mobilise and Modernise strategy.”

“It also demonstrated how bringing data and specialist capability together can deliver a key enabling service of any LIOS solution in the future.”

Richard Dixon, Land Account Director at Techmodal added:

“The hackathon exceeded our expectations of what could be developed in such a short space of time. By re-using data science and analytic techniques that we’ve successfully used elsewhere in Defence, and applying them to a different problem set, we demonstrated the pan-domain utility and value of our work. We look forward to continuing to work with RBSL in this area.”
